Telescope

When I was a young boy
I’d look up into the stars,
Imagine where I’d fly
And if I could just live on mars
I’d dig into the ground
Collecting all these stones
Keeping only the colored ones
And leaving all the rest alone

Then she grabbed me by the shoulder
And she looked me in the eyes
I can’t forget what she told me that night

You won’t find no faith hidden in your telescope tonight
You won’t find no love, somewhere ‘neath this starlight that is mine,
You can break things down into their chemicals,
But you’re never gonna explain a love like ours

Now I’m a teen and I study,
What I used to love
Finding out it wasn’t only magic after all,
And still I wonder sometime if there was ever was more
Can you break man down into what just makes him whole?

I remember what you told me that night
Remember that light in her eyes as she told me

You won’t find no faith hidden in your telescope tonight
You won’t find no love, somewhere ‘neath this starlight that is mine,
You can break things down into their chemicals,
But you’re never gonna explain a love like ours

Now I’m 67, three kids and a wife
Have a bunch of grandchildren with a life
And still I wonder sometimes if there was anything more
Cause I joined my father’s business travelling from shore to shore

And now I look up and the sky
And I remember what she said
And I wonder if she right
Was there something that I missed?

You won’t find no faith hidden in your telescope tonight
You won’t find no love, somewhere ‘neath this starlight that is mine,
You can break things down into their chemicals,
But you’re never gonna explain a love like ours (x3)
